Terms of service
The rules for using WebSafe, written to be readable. Last updated 21 September 2026.
1. About these terms
- WebSafe is a browser extension and parent dashboard that helps parents filter what their children see online. These terms are the agreement between you and Koru Consulting, which operates WebSafe ("we", "us"), for using the extension, the dashboard at manage.websafe.nz, and our website.
- By creating an account or using WebSafe you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use WebSafe.
- Our privacy policy and refund policy form part of this agreement.
2. Who can use WebSafe
- You must be at least 18 and be a parent or legal guardian of every child you set up a profile for, or otherwise have the legal authority to manage their internet use.
- WebSafe is for parents. Children don't create accounts, and your child's browser is linked to a profile that you control.
- Use WebSafe only to help protect children in your care. Don't use it to monitor another adult, or a child you aren't responsible for.
3. What WebSafe does, and what it can't promise
- WebSafe filters web content using on-device rules (your keywords and blocked domains) and AI analysis, then blurs or removes what your chosen sensitivity settings say to act on.
- AI filtering is not perfect. WebSafe can miss harmful content, and it can wrongly act on harmless content. We don't guarantee that it will catch everything, and it is not a substitute for talking with your child and supervising how they use the internet.
- We're happy to offer strong filtering that puts privacy first: we don't use any parent's or child's data — or even anonymised clicks on our website — to train WebSafe or any AI model. That describes our approach, not a guarantee of any particular catch rate.
- WebSafe works only in browsers where the extension is installed and linked. A child who uses a different browser, a different device, or removes the extension is not protected.
4. Your account
- You're responsible for keeping your password secure and for what happens under your account. Tell us at support@websafe.nz if you think someone else has gained access.
- Give us an accurate email address so we can reach you about your account and billing.
- Each linked browser extension counts as one install, not each computer: one laptop with WebSafe in both Chrome and Edge is 2 installs. The install limit for your plan is shared across your whole family.
- You can delete your account at any time from the dashboard. Deleting it permanently removes your data as described in the privacy policy.
5. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- reverse-engineer, copy, or resell WebSafe, or try to access parts of it you aren't permitted to;
- overload, probe, or attack our servers, or try to get around rate limits, linking-code limits, or other protections;
- use WebSafe's classification features as a general-purpose AI service, or send content through them for any purpose other than protecting a linked child;
- use WebSafe to break the law or to harm, harass, or covertly track another person.
6. Early access, free trial, and paid subscription
- Early access. WebSafe is still an early-stage product — features, limits, and availability may change as we keep improving it. This doesn't change the trial, pricing, or billing terms below.
- Free trial. New accounts get a 14-day free trial. You won't be charged during the trial.
- Family plan. The paid plan is NZ$10 per month. It covers your whole family within the plan's install limit. Prices may be shown in your local currency at checkout, and taxes such as GST or VAT may be added depending on where you live. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay.
- Automatic renewal. Subscriptions renew every month until you cancel. Each renewal is charged to the payment method you used at checkout.
- Cancelling. You can cancel any time from the billing section of your dashboard. Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for.
- Price changes. If we change the price, we'll tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
- Refunds. See our refund policy. In short, you can have a full refund of your current billing month's payment if you ask.
7. Payments are handled by Paddle
- Our order process is run by our online reseller and Merchant of Record, Paddle. Paddle handles the checkout, takes payment, calculates and collects tax, issues receipts, and processes refunds.
- When you subscribe, you're buying from Paddle, and Paddle's Checkout Buyer Terms apply to that transaction alongside these terms.
- We never see or store your full card details. Paddle's handling of your personal data is described in its own privacy notice.
8. Our software and your content
- We own WebSafe, including the extension, dashboard, website, and filtering systems. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them for their intended purpose while you have an account.
- You keep ownership of what you give us, such as your custom keyword and domain rules. You give us permission to store and process it only as needed to run WebSafe for you.
9. Changes and availability
- We're improving WebSafe continually. We may add, change, or remove features, and we'll try to give notice of changes that meaningfully affect what you pay for.
- We aim to keep WebSafe available but don't promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Maintenance, outages of services we rely on (including Cloudflare), or events outside our control may affect it.
10. Suspension and ending the agreement
- You can stop using WebSafe and delete your account at any time.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, that is used to harm others or our systems, or where we're required to by law. Where it's reasonable to, we'll tell you why first. If we close your paid account other than for breaking these terms, we'll refund the unused part of your current billing month.
11. Liability
- Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any rights you have under consumer law that can't be excluded, including New Zealand's Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and Fair Trading Act 1986, or the consumer laws of the country you live in.
- Subject to that, WebSafe is provided "as is". Because filtering is not perfect (see section 3), we can't accept responsibility for content that gets through or is wrongly blocked.
- Subject to that, and to the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you for anything arising from your use of WebSafe is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event that gave rise to the claim.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. For material changes we'll tell you by email or in the dashboard before they take effect. If you keep using WebSafe after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms; if you don't agree, you can cancel and delete your account.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If you're a consumer living elsewhere, this doesn't take away any protections you have under the mandatory laws of your own country.
